“Of course I want to create food that is delicious, but this depends on so much more than simply what’s going on in the mouth-context, history, nostalgia, emotion, memory and the interplay of sight, smell, sound and taste all play an important part in our appreciation and enjoyment of food”
Heston Blumethal’s “Feast” is a temporary venue which will take over an empty Darlinghurst Terrace for one month.
Heston Blumenthal is a self-taught chef who believes in a multisensory approach to cuisine. Each signature dish that Blumenthal creates harnesses the power of narrative to enhance the diner’s experience of the meal. Blumenthal’s meals use sight, touch, smell, sound, theatre and the evocation of diner’s personal memories to create a dining experience which is truly a feast for the senses.
Utilizing Heston Blumenthal as your client you are required to design a space where the experience that is dining at a Blumenthal establishment can be fully realised.
Each tutorial group was given a Heston signature dish, which formed the starting point of their research and the gateway to their concept design experimentation. Students were also encouraged to draw inspiration from the client and their unique approach to dining.
