“Architecturally our criteria is always to try and work with what is already there and to weave ourselves into the core and fabric of the street, rather than to impose what we were doing.”
Dennis Paphitis, Founder of Aesop.
Project 1 of semester 2 was to design the Aesop Australian flagship store, in it’s new location in Surry Hills. The store is to have a front of house retail area with a presence on to Randle Street, treatment room and a back of house area for staff.
Since being established by Dennis Paphitis in Melbourne in 1987, Aésop skin care has come to become one of the most recognized brands in the world, not only for their skin care range, but also for their architecturally inspired stores.
Every Aesop’s store is different; conceived and designed individually so as that each store is a reflection and celebration of its location. Students were encouraged to draw inspiration from the surrounding area to create a palette that tells a story of its immediate, cultural and historic background.
