Design and the law
Last session INTA2301 DP 5 Narrate had a guest lecture from Ms Victoria Bell, Senior Associate from the law firm Baker & McKenzie. This lecture formed part of the professional practice component of the course and discussed aspects relating to intellectual property rights in relation to design.
A recent article in the Sydney Morning Herald reinforces the issues that Ms Bell raised in relation to the fine line between ‘inspiration’ and ‘attribution’, and how complex navigating between the two can be as a designer, and when it comes to it, as a lawyer.
Have a read of the issues involving an Australian fashion design company and other artists.
